The Earlsfield neighbourhood

Earlsfield is a highly sought-after area, and with good reason. Found on the quieter end of Wandsworth and boasting beautiful streets of terraced houses and open spaces, it is ideal for anybody looking to relocate to a tranquil and leafy spot without sacrificing proximity to other areas of London. Earlsfield attracts many families thanks to its nearness to several excellent schools, however there is also an increasing number of young professionals moving into the area too, taking advantage of the neighbourhood’s many trendy bars and restaurants. This mix of residents gives the area a healthy vitality and emphasises its desirability.

History of Earlsfield

In April 1884, when London & South Western Railway opened Earlsfield train station, the ensuing development boom led to a growth in property in Earlsfield. The area was named after a large Victorian mansion, now demolished, that stood south of Allfarthing Lane. The house was originally sold to L&SWR on the condition that the new station would be named after it. Thus, the area of Earlsfield was born.

Eating and drinking in Earlsfield

The neighbourhood offers a variety of buzzy and popular places to eat and drink, from Sunday roasts and seafood at The Open Page to mouth-watering steak at Roxie Steak. For pub trips check out The Earlsfield outside the train station or The Leather Bottle on Garratt Lane. It’s also home to some lovely brunch spots: be sure to try out The Eclectic Collection’s famous English breakfast.

Green spaces and leisure in Earlsfield

A particularly desirable facet of the area would have to be its close proximity to many gorgeous parks and green spaces. In 1899 Wandsworth Council purchased Garratt Green, which is now a beautiful and popular public green space – a particular shout-out must go to the Garratt Park allotments which are put to great use by local residents. King George’s Park has 55 acres of space alongside a tennis club for those who are sports-inclined. Plus, the close by Wandsworth Common offers picturesque areas to walk in and a lake for lounging beside or fishing.
