Ashworths Sponsor Waggy Walk Wimbledon

On a beautiful sunlit Saturday in early October, more than 180 dogs and their owners gathered near the Hand in Hand pub at Crooked Billet for the annual Waggy Walk Wimbledon to raise money for Wimbledon Guild. There were Dachshunds and Dalmatians, Bichons Frises and Springer Spaniels, prancing about with ears pricked and tails going nineteen to the dozen as they set off round Wimbledon Common on either a 4km or 7km signposted walkies. Ashworths managing partner Brendan Dean had brought his dog Dhansak, who goes into the office on Compton Road with him every day, but that day was delighted to be out chasing leaves on a dry autumn morning. “I spend half my life on the Common with the dog,” said Brendan.

“We are all dog-lovers at Ashworths, and the Guild is so local to us.”

Dog owners congregated around the food stalls and watched as the Mayor of Merton laughingly had her picture taken with Waggy, the walk’s human-sized doggy mascot. Cheerful volunteers in orange T-shirts and local businesses like Pet Pavilion gave their time to making the day a success. There were goodie bags for everyone who finished the walk, and many people made new friends, with two and four legs. Here at Ashworths we take a traditional, caring approach, building up personal relationships of trust with our clients. In many cases we are now serving the second generation of the same family. We care more about people than systems. Sponsoring the Waggy Walk Wimbledon Common is a way for us to give something back to the local community that has supported us since Ashworths was founded, nearly 25 years ago. We were absolutely delighted to hear from Mark Williams, head of communications and fundraising at Wimbledon Guild, that the event had raised nearly £14,000 for the amazing work it does.

“We raised over £13,800, which will go towards helping us make sure that no one in Merton has to face life’s challenges alone,” said Mr Williams.

“A huge thank you to Ashworths Solicitors, Barratt London, George’s Dog Boutique, John D Wood & Co and Wimbledon Quarter for being our sponsors. The amount we raised is up on last year, but many more people across the borough need our help.”

The Wimbledon Guild is a unique and invaluable charity that exists to serve the community and is relied on by many. It takes a caring and imaginative approach to vulnerable people in our area, making sure that elderly people have companionship and help, and that people who feel low are supported without having to pay huge sums. The Guild can’t achieve all this without help and backing, so it makes us tremendously proud to have been able to contribute to such marvellous social welfare work over the last seven years. We look forward to sponsoring the Waggy Walk for many years to come! Ashworths Solicitors Law Firm has been helping residential and commercial customers with specialist property services in and around Wimbledon for 25 years. Usually Dhansak comes into the office with me so he was very happy to join 180 dogs and their owners gathered near the Hand in Hand pub at Crooked Billet for the annual Waggy Walk Wimbledon to raise money for Wimbledon Guild. There were Dachshunds and Dalmatians, Bichons Frises and Springer Spaniels prancing about with ears pricked and tails going nineteen to the dozen as they set off from Wimbledon Village round Wimbledon Common on either a 4km or 7km signposted walkies. It was a beautiful, crisp day so Dhansak had a great time chasing leaves on one of his favourite places to walk.
