Ashworths is a firm of commercial and residential property solicitors in Central London, ideally placed to assist you in buying your new home or business premises in the area. Read on for the lowdown on Central London.

Central London

The centre of London is diverse to say the least, running from affluent Marylebone to off-beat Camden. You can find everything from listed Georgian properties to canal-side apartments, and its excellent transport links mean you can commute to just about anywhere. Schools-wise, top choices in Central London include the centuries-old Westminster School. With the West End theatre district on the doorstep, numerous eateries and major tourist attractions, it is a bustling place to be – but pockets of green such as St James’s Park provide scenic retreats.

Camden

Buzzy Camden is synonymous with alternative London, shaped by its music scene, street art and artsy markets. Every weekend it draws in a young crowd for its nightlife with famous venues such as The Roundhouse, Electric Ballroom, KOKO and Jazz Café. By day, you can walk along the Regent’s Canal, stopping for street food in the markets. There’s a good choice of flats available, mews houses and period homes. Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill are on the doorstep for when you need a more peaceful pace.

Marylebone

Marylebone High Street runs through the area, with the quiet roads around it giving rise to a more refined atmosphere – hence the Marylebone Village moniker. Moxon Street is a top spot for foodies with the likes of La Fromagerie and Marylebone Lane has independent stores and cafes. There’s also a range of tourist attractions such as Madame Tussauds in the area. There are a great range of flats, from those in mansion blocks to conversions in Georgian townhouses.

Islington

With its rows of stunning Georgian terraces offering spacious family homes, Islington is a popular spot on the northern side of Central London. The location is ideal for those working in the City, with numerous transport links to all over the capital, too. There’s a wide range of restaurants (local gems include Frederick’s and The Tamil Prince) and great shopping with Camden Passage the in-the-know spot for antiques. There’s also the Almeida and King’s Head theatres for culture.

Soho

Soho was long a popular draw for its bohemian lifestyle, which over time has evolved to become a hub for creatives as well as buzzing nightlife. There are still remnants of louche Soho but today it is full of cool bars and restaurants, chic cafes and high-end and hip stores. Bar Italia is the epitome of a Soho institution – it dates back to 1949 and is open until 4am. Penthouse apartments with roof terraces are among the most sought-after properties for those who like to be in the heart of the action.

Westminster

The Westminster area is dominated by the cathedral and Houses of Parliament, and in the vicinity are the likes of Buckingham Palace, the National Gallery and Trafalgar Square. There are prestigious flats to be had in the immediate vicinity, with family homes available as you head into Pimlico, which has a more residential feel and leafy garden squares such as St George’s. Transport connections are excellent with the Jubilee, District and Circle lines serving Westminster station.
